Subject: Palin in Fairbanks, Alaska
Fairbanks, Alaska
Over 1,000 supporters in an airplane hangar greeted Palin when we landed here. The crowd was cheering as Palin and her husband descended the plane and were greeted by her children Piper, Willow, and Trig. Her mouth was open in shock when she realized how big the hometown crowd was to greet her.
Alaskans went crazy waving “Welcome Home Sarah” and “The coldest state the hottest governor” signs. She was clearly ecstatic to be here as she walked up to the podium. Palin’s remarks had some elements of her standard stump, but she made changes for the local crowd.
She began by telling the enthusiastic crowd what she has been doing since she hit the road and mentioned her son’s deployment tomorrow. Palin spent a good amount of time talking about how Alaska is going to help America become energy independent and said her family made friends on the airplane (not us).
She got huge cheers when she repeated an Alaskan line: “men are men and women win the Iditarod!” She also said that JSM is the only man that “has what it takes” adding “he’s amazing, friends” much like JSM would say. She repeated her line about selling the Governor’s jet, but left out that she sold it on Ebay interesting because it did not end up selling on Ebay and this hometown crowd knows that.
Palin ended by talking about what an honor it is to represent Alaska and for the state to help elect John McCain President. Verbates and Log below:
CAMPAIGNING WITH MCCAIN:
“Wow. It’s been an amazing couple of weeks and I just want to thank you Alaska for your support and for your encouragement and what we’ve been doing is taking our campaign on the road of course across the nation and we’ve been carrying our message of reform to the American people and we have been talking all about Alaska and people are impressed.”
“What a trip it’s been and I can not wait until you meet John McCain. He’s a friend of Alaska and he is going to be the next president of the United States of America. We started in Arizona and then went to Ohio and Pennsylvania and Missouri and new Mexico and Colorado and Virginia and everywhere we are going the response has really been overwhelming, but I kept telling people if you think it is exciting along those stops just wait until we get to Alaska (cheers).”
TRACK’S DEPLOYMENT:
“I’m so happy to be here of course with my family. Some of the kids are here with us. Tomorrow we get to participate in our son track his deployment with the stryker brigade (usa chants).”
ENERGY:
11:44:04″In the McCain-Palin administration we’re excited to expand nuclear energy, and expand our use of alternative fuels. And we will drill now to make this nation energy independent. More and more everyday everyone we’re speaking with is realizing it is a matter of national security. And it is for our economic prosperity. We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, brought to you by American workers, and we have it right here in Alaska. That energy independence for our nation is going to start right here in Alaska with that natural gas pipeline. And people all over the country, they’re hearing about it and they’re saying thank you Alaska for allowing safe responsible development of your resources to help secure our state, provide jobs here, but also for the betterment of our entire nation. They’re saying thank you.
11:44:49 When the last section of that pipeline is laid and the valves are open our state–our state–Alaska will be a leader in energy policy and our state will have brought Americans one step closer to energy independence and one step closer to an America free of foreign suppliers that do not have our interests at heart.”
11:46:25 “I feel like I’m preaching to the choir you guys already know this! Take the message to America! ”
PLANE FRIENDS:
11:35:48 “You guys are going to notice especially if you watch that airplane and you watch people get off that airplane you are going to notice that Todd and the kids picked up a few friends along the way. A whole airplane full of friends and if you see them looking lost because you know they are overwhelmed as they flew over this territory and I said don’t worry these good Alaskans they will point you in the right direction just look for the north star you’ll find your way.”
MEN ARE MEN LINE:
11:35:50 “So Senator McCain introduced me as his running mate Americans have gotten to know a lot more about Alaska and they know that up here it is a snow machine not a snowmobile (huge cheers) and they know that in Alaska like that old bumper sticker says men are men and women win the Iditarod.” 11:36:20
ONLY MAN THAT HAS WHAT IT TAKES
11:38:35 “For the job of leading our country he is the only man who has what it takes. He’s amazing, friends (cheers).”
STATE JET:
11:42:18 “The ethical standards that had lead to closed door dealings and self-interest. It’s gone. Even the state’s luxury jet. It sold and I say that hopefully not sounding hypocritical as you watch me walk off that.”
REPRESENTING ALASKA AND ELECTING JOHN MCCAIN:
11:46:42 “I am so honored and I am so humbled to serve as senator McCain’s running mate and I am equally honored and forever will be honored to serve as your governor of the great state of Alaska”
11:47:14 “Representing our fellow Alaskans is not only a tremendous honor it is also a sacred duty and you have placed great faith in me and as you travel across the country I will fulfill that duty to you and spreading our good message and I promise I will do my best to make Alaskans proud in the weeks to come and I would ask you to help me then. Let us work together. Let us elect john McCain. A great man who will be a great president because he is a friend of Alaska and he will be our next president.”
